Girl’s Wrestling Team is Fired Up For the New Season to Begin
November 15, 2021
Wrestling season is just around the corner and after such a phenomenal performance brought by the team last year, the girls are feeling good and pumped up to take on the new season ahead.
When you think of the sport of wrestling, you usually don’t think of girls, which is why having a girl’s wrestling team at Lebanon is something the school is very proud of considering most schools have little to no girl’s wrestlers at all.
“Being a part of the girl’s wrestling team is special because with this team we get the opportunity to travel to all girls’ tournaments. This is special because it allows us girls to be able to have the same opportunities that the boys are given,” said senior Jazlyn Gramlin.
Not only is it amazing that there is a girls’ team in general, but last year this wrestling team was so amazing that they ended their season by becoming the state champions.
“Winning state was such a surreal feeling. Once Gracie Brandt pinned, everyone in the stands were screaming and jumping. In that moment all our hard work had final paid off,” said junior Grace Merchant.
With this being said, the Girl’s Wrestling team has a lot of expectations to live up to this season. Although they are sad that their team will be shrinking due to the girls who graduated, they are excited for some new first-time members to join the team, and to overall see what they can bring to the table.
“This year I am really looking forward to seeing all the girls get better and fall in love with the sport. I am hoping to go to state again and place in the top four overall,” said junior Bethany DeGraw.
