Finals Tips

With the weather increasing, and the summer sun upon us, finals weeks is approaching quickly also. This can be a stressful time of the year for students, as many brains have already checked out for summer vacation. However, it is important to stay focused for the next couple of weeks.

  1. Study Tools: A very important study tool that students commonly abuse are study guides for finals that teachers give out. If a teacher says that a study guide is “optional”, do it anyways because most of the time it will be all of the contents that you need to know for the final. Also, make sure to utilize study tables and extra help that is given in classes that you need before finals.
  2. Separate into units: When studying, it can help if you divide up your information into units that you learned them so that you are not trying to remember a whole year’s worth of information in a short amount of time.
  3. Use tricks to study: One thing that helps many people remember certain topics is using tricks like mnemonic devices to retain information. It often helps to relate whatever subject or term you are trying to remember to a term that you would commonly relate to the topic.
  4. Get plenty of sleep: The nights before your finals, you might think it is a good idea to stay up and cram all night for your final the next day but in most cases, it is not. The best thing to do is study earlier and go to bed at a decent hour so that you are well rested and focused for finals.

The biggest thing you need to do is relax and focus. Most teachers will give you tools for you to pass finals with and the best thing to do is use them. Grades can be majorly affected in the final week of school, so do not slack off.
