One of the biggest events in United States history happened 16 years ago. September 11th, 2001 is the day 2,996 people were killed in a terrorist act. On a Tuesday morning around 8:45 a.m., a plane hit the World Trade Center’s North Tower in New York. Just 20 minutes later the South Tower was hit, and the attacks continued to happen with the third plane hitting the Pentagon. On this day 16 years ago, many people lost someone extremely close to them whether it was a family member or friend.
Two days ago, it seemed like 9/11 went unseen at our school. Students at Lebanon High School believe we should have a convocation during school and some feel like talking about it during class is enough but is that the truth? Some students stated that they had a social studies class on Monday and 9/11 was not brought up once during the whole period.
“I think we should honor those who lost loved ones and the ones who lost their lives trying to help ones in need. For me personally, I will never forget 9/11, but yes, I do think our school has forgotten 9/11 because during school this year no teacher that I had even brought it up and when I asked, one teacher said it’s kind of dissolving,” said junior Christian Knight
Whether LHS has a convocation or not, students feel like the events that happened only sixteen years ago should not go unseen because this was a major event in our history.
