Recap of 2017

2017 is coming to a close even though it feels like it started just yesterday. Through the shocking celebrity break – ups, the knee – slapping memes, and even a new President in office; 2017 has been full of surprises.

You either love him or you hate him – President Donald Trump was sworn into office on Friday January 20th, 2017. President Trump now serves as the 45th President of the United States, and he has been making big changes ever since he set foot in The White House. President Trump has cut certain business regulations and he also withdrew from Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal (A partnership among the 12 nations’ trade chiefs). Not only does President Trump have more changes he wishes to make; he also has more tweets he plans to publish.

Freshman Jessica Lehmkuhler thouroughly enjoyed her 2017 experience.

“My two favorite memories out of the entire year of 2017 would definitely have to be my trip to California this summer and my high school soccer season this fall,” said Lehmkuhler.

After being MIA on the most recent episodes of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, fans started to wonder; where is Kylie Jenner? Towards the end of the season, Jenner finally makes her big announcement: she is pregnant with her first child.  Although unexpected, her and her boyfriend Travis Scott could not be any more excited to welcome their little girl into the world.

Junior Taylor Rice wishes 2017 would never come to an end.

“My favorite memory of 2017 was going to the Sam Hunt concert during the summer. It was the best concert I had been to and I got to make new friends too,” said Rice.

According to, the United Kingdom will be creating their first vending machine for the homeless – Action Hunger. Action Hunger, while working alongside the Friary (grocery charity), will be passing out keycards to the city’s homeless population. The individuals are allowed to use their keycards up to three times a day in order to get the nourishment that their body truly needs.

Sophomore Jackie Terrill had a blast going to the 2017 football games with some of her best friends.

“I made a lot of new friends that I would not trade for the world this year. I got to see who my real friends were and I could not be happier with who is in my life right now,” said Terrill.

Senior Nick Dafoe had the most fun out of his 2017 jumping off of Holiday Road Bridge with his friends and meeting a professional basketball player.

“The best thing that happened to me was finding my true friends and getting to create a special bond with them that cannot be broken,” said Dafoe.

On October 1st, 2017, a gunman opened fire on a large crowd of concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. The shooting left 58 people dead, and 546 injured. This crime of hatred has become the biggest mass shooting committed by a single individual in the history of The United States. Our hearts go out to every single victim of the shooting, and to each person who lost a loved one that day.

As a school, we should focus on making 2018 the best year yet! Goodbye 2017, Hello 2018!
