What is your full name?
Amber Kay Smith
What are your future plans? What are you majoring in, if you are planning on attending a post-secondary school?
I am planning to get my associates in General Studies at Ivy Tech, and afterwards entering the fire service.
What has made this year your best year?
What has made this my best year was the success that we had for my last year in the Tiger Pride Marching Band. We scored the highest that we ever have at State Fair, and we had two wonderful performances.
If you could give any advice to the underclassmen, what would you say?
Get involved! Do not spend your time coasting by with these four years – getting involved will make these years so much more important and enjoyable. Take whatever is thrown at you and roll with it, it’s a skill you will need even after these years. Roll with the punches and don’t expect for life to wait for you to catch up to it – it’s not going to cater to you. Keep on top of your tasks and don’t let yourself get swarmed by your responsibilities.
Who has been your biggest influence at the school and why? (teacher, administrator, staff member)
The biggest influencer I’ve had in my high school career was our band director Mr. Conrad. Throughout the time that I have spent with the band program I have learned to become really close to him and trust him as a teacher and an adult. He, along with marching band, brought me out of the shell that I was in freshman year and helped me bloom into an actual person. Not only has he influenced me to grow as a musician but to grow as a person as well. I can not thank him enough for the influence he has had on my life and my mannerisms.
What class has been the most beneficial for you? Why?
The music classes that I have been in throughout my 4 years have been the most beneficial to me. It gave me an outlet every other day to release any built up feelings I might have had throughout the day and they have helped me with other skills that I need.
What is something interesting about you that most people wouldn’t know about you?
I am quite a bit of a traveler. I have been to 24 different states outside of Indiana and 3 different countries outside of the US.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself as a firefighter for any town I may end up in, married and settled down.
