What is your full name? Katie Hasty

What are your future plans? What are you majoring in, if you are planning on attending a post-secondary school? I will be majoring in nursing at Indiana Wesleyan University.

What has made this year your best year? I have made this year my best year by becoming a better leader in many of my activities such as cross country, track, and clubs I am involved with. When I was a freshman there was a strong group of seniors who took me under their wings in cross country and track, so I was able to pay that forward for my last year of high school.

If you could give any advice to the underclassmen, what would you say? I would say don’t take yourself too seriously. Remember that you are human and you are going to make mistakes. You don’t have to be the smartest, funniest, most popular, or even most athletic person to fit in somewhere. You have the ability to make an impact on someone’s life if you just try to be your best every day in school and other activities. Working hard and being kind is a chain reaction, it inspires others to do the same.

Who has been your biggest influence at the school and why? (teacher, administrator, staff member) One of my biggest influencers would be Ms. Hines. She ultimately sparked my interest in the medical field and made me believe that I am capable of being a nurse someday. She is the epitome of a dedicated teacher and a kind person. I hope someday I could care for people as much as she does, especially in the field that I want to go into. She has also made her class such an exciting experience, always keeping the classroom setting light-hearted. Her style of teaching reaches all types of students and her medical practicals are always engaging and fun!

What class has been the most beneficial for you? Why? The class that has been the most beneficial for me would be Health Careers because that was the first class out of all of the medical classes that I took in high school and made me want to continue to learn about the medical field.

What is something interesting about you that most people wouldn’t know about you? I once ran a mini-marathon my freshmen year at Eagle Creek in the freezing cold. What was interesting about it was that I took the wrong turn and ended up running 15.6 miles. Everybody wondered why I took so long when I crossed the finish line!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I see myself working in a hospital as a pediatric nurse! I also see myself being a marathon runner and having a side hobby of drawing and painting.

Are you planning on playing sports in college? If so what sport and where? I will be running cross country and track at Indiana Wesleyan University.
