Pacers Season Starts

November 10, 2022
Looking at the Indiana Pacers this season, it is apparent that they are trying to develop for the future. In this years NBA Draft, the Pacers selected Benedict Mathurin with the sixth overall pick. Mathurin is a 6’6” forward from the University of Arizona. Many people were pleased with the Pacers’ selection.
“I thought it was a great pick. Its unfortunate that the Pacers didn’t end up getting a top five pick, but I think they got their pick right,” said junior Corbin Wells.
Another young piece that the Pacers added to the team is guard Tyrese Haliburton. Haliburton came over from the Sacramento Kings in a trade involving Domantas Sabonis. The Pacers were looking to add some youthfulness throughout the lineup, obviously planning for the future.
“Haliburton has shown he is a good player. He is a fantastic shooter who can also pass the ball well,” said senior Korbyn Sloggett.
After a rough season last year, the Pacers look to take a step forward in 2022. So far to start the season they are 3-5. Mathurin has had a terrific start to the season, averaging just over 20 points a game. He looks like a fantastic 3-point shooter, shooting almost 43 percent from behind the arc.
“He looks great so far this year. I’m super excited to hopefully watch him play in a Pacers uniform for a long time,” said sophomore Joe Susong.
Overall, the future looks bright for the Indiana Pacers. With a star-studded young core of players, the team looks to build each and every year. The team hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2019.
“Its been a struggle these past couple of years. I hope that we can take a step in the right direction this season,” said Sloggett.
