If you are worried about the scheduling changes LHS has arranged this year, you can find out more about the changes here. We have spoken to one of LHS counselors for more information on these changes.
Mrs. Mineart, one of LHS counselors, says that the scheduling process is still the same, they have added a lot of new courses for next year mainly regarding graduation pathways and career flow.
Mineart says, “There are a lot of new opportunities, there’s a few title changes but it kind of depends on grade level.”
The reasoning behind the changes has to do more with state requirements, LHS has to follow the rules of the Indiana Department of Education(IDE). Mineart says that the IDE wants these new courses to be offered or can be offered at the high school level.
“We’ve made adjustments and part of it is that certain classes have gone away, the state can no longer recognize a class. Therefore, we have to make those changes.” Mineart said.
Mineart shares how talking to the freshman about these changes did not affect them, because they weren’t aware of some of the options they were offered. On the other hand, the current juniors who were in construction or healthcare anticipated taking some of these classes to continue their Capstone pathway next year– instead they must take the intro class.
Mineart states, “Career classes are being taken away but they will still be learning the same concepts, college classes will be the only classes available.”
