“Senioritis” is just having a bad case of “I’m over it.” You have over 40 credits, all the graduation requirements, received your college acceptance letter(s), and now everything else seems pointless. You start to slowly lose the motivation to do work, and even show up for school.
Senior, Lexie Ferguson says, “It’s made things very hard to focus on what I’m doing and have the motivation to complete my work.”
The closer we get to the end of the year, the harder it gets for all of us to continue our schooling. Graduation is around the corner and we’re all ready. It’s starting to get warmer and it’s lacking us even more. Showing up just feels pointless now. Especially when you’ve gotten your college acceptance and your requirements. Showing up is a chore, and doing the work is even harder.
Lexie says, “It gets warmer and I just want to be outside rather than staying in doing homework.”
And we all agree. Warm weather means it’s almost the end of the school year, which causes more desire to just graduate and get on with our lives. Attendance in seniors has definitely been affected this year/ this semester.
Mrs. Hiatt, who works in attendance says, “About 150 seniors have used 5 or more of their days already.”
A lot of half-days have been taken this year. We’re using up our days super quickly because of the lack of motivation to show up and do work. It just feels like we’re all here for no reason. But, during slow days like these, we need to remember that it’s only 2 months left and we’ll have all the freedom we’ve wanted. 2 more months is all we have left.
Mrs. Hiatt says, “ I have definitely seen a lot more of seniors leaving this year.”
In times like these when you’re feeling unmotivated, just remember, we’ve done this for 13 years, we can all last 2 more months.
