As we enter the 2024-2025 school year, the National Honor Society is entering an exciting period of positive change, thanks to the dedication of its new advisors and newly appointed leadership team. Current members have already hit the ground running, actively engaging in service hours that benefit our community and uphold the core values of NHS. With the induction ceremony two weeks away, we are eagerly preparing to welcome the new members who will bring fresh energy and ideas, making this year, one of the most dynamic and service-oriented in our chapter’s history.
Claire Boling, the president of the National Honor Society shared some insightful reflections on the changes within the organization this year. Claire explained that “the level of demand of each member is different” compared to previous years. She said, “Last year, it was really laid back, but this year, the new advisors are wanting each member to put in more than they did last year, which I think is good.” When asked what she is most excited about, Claire said “the experience and connects I’ll acquire from being a part of this club.” As president, she expressed feeling honored by the trust her peers have placed in her, saying “It is an honor that my peers trust me enough and have faith in me to be in a very high leadership position in an extremely special club.” Claire also emphasized the significance of the induction ceremony, calling it “a tradition” that “officially makes the new members a part of NHS.” She said, “It’s important to the culture of our NHS chapter here at Lebanon.”
The National Honor Society induction ceremony begins with a warm welcome from the NHS president, who sets the tone for the evening followed by an introduction of the current members and an acknowledging of their dedication to the organization. Following this, the leadership team takes part in the symbolic lighting of the tapers, each representing one of the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. As the tapers illuminate the room, these values are reviewed to remind both new and returning members of their commitment to uphold them. After the reviewing of the pillars, the new inductees will be formally initiated into the NHS registers, signifying their official membership. Each inductee will be presented with a pin and certificate, a physical representation of their accomplishment.
While the new members standby proudly, the NHS president will follow by leading them in the NHS pledge, where they will promise to continue exemplifying the ideals of the organization. Our school principal, Frank Meyer, will then deliver congratulatory remarks, commending the inductees on their hard work. The President concludes with a few closing words of gratitude and encouragement, followed by a current member reading a poem the reflects the values and spirit of NHS. The ceremony ends on a celebratory note with a reception, where families and members mingle, marking the beginning of the inductees’ journey in NHS.
In closing, this year’s National Honor Society promises to be one of growth, engagement, and meaningful impact, thanks to the renewed commitment of both new and returning members. As they embark on another year of service, each member of NHS will not only strive to uphold the core values of the organization but also contribute to the betterment of our community and school. With fresh leadership, higher expectations, and a focus on fostering connections, the 2024-2025 chapter is poised to set a new standard for excellence. We look forward to seeing the many accomplishments that will undoubtedly emerge from this new group of individuals, who will be inducted next Monday on October 14th.
