With almost a quarter of the school year down, seniors around LHS are critically thinking about what they want to do after High School. There are students finishing their college applications, looking at trade schools to attend, and interested in enlisting in the military. If you’re a freshman, sophomore, or junior who want to get a head start, or a senior who’s behind, here’s some helpful advice from seniors around the school.
If you’re thinking about continuing your education at a college or university, Senior Joel Acton has advice for you. Acton is interested in being a stockbroker or financial advisor and he plans on attending the University of Cincinnati to study financial counseling and planning. He says it’s good to apply for a safety school, which is Ball State for him, and to try in high school so that you’re able to be accepted into a good school. When asked about the difficulty of the application process he said, “It’s been pretty easy to be honest. The hardest part is the essay, but other than that, you can get it all done in a day.”
If you’re interested in enlisting or going into trades, then Senior Isaac Harvey’s plan is likely similar to yours. Harvey wants to be a welder in the military. He’s thinking about enlisting in either the Air Force or the Army. Harvey was asked what advice he would give to people who have similar interests and he said, “Do a little research on it and make sure it’s something you want to do. Once you’re in you don’t get to go out until your term is over.”
For any freshmen, sophomores, or juniors who want to get a head start, Senior Avi Haimov is who you want to listen to. Haimov is thinking about attending Stony Brook University in New York. Haimov is interested in studying economics or philosophy. Haimov was asked what advice he would give to underclassmen and juniors, and he responded with, “Get on that early, know what you want to do, and find your passion.”
