There are a lot of different pathways people may take throughout high school, and it can be hard deciding what path you want to take. Well one common pathway that is taken is graduating early. This could be an interest for freshman, sophomores, and some juniors currently when talking about graduating.
“I’m graduating with a CORE 40 honors diploma and to achieve that I’ve had to have, I think forty-seven credits and hit all of the required ones and have a few AP classes,” stated Alyssa Cooper, LHS student.
After some thoughts, there can be both benefits and losses when taking this course in your future. Some of the positives when considering graduating early is having a head start in college, early enrollment, longer time to consider your future, and even if you are employed it can be a better way to earn money to put towards college. Although this is pretty great, some negatives taking this course is a harder workload in high school, less free-time, and the gap between starting college. If you want to be considered for your achievements (mainly in clubs, volunteering, etc.) in high school you have to consistently keep up with community to show your previous commitment.
“I would say it is really stressful, I think it is the most stressful this year because junior year you have the SAT and all the tests you have to take care of, as well as it’s going to be the last grades that go on my transcript before I graduate.” replied Alyssa Cooper.
Overall either choice is a beneficial one, whether you choose to stay in high school longer or leave early it is up to you. If interested in the alternative of graduating early it is best to consider speaking to a counselor about what you should choose depending on the type of education you are wanting to pursue for the future.
