One of the most exciting times for college sports fans is college basketball season. It seems as if almost every day there is an upset or an exciting game to watch. This year is no different, there have been three different number one overall ranked teams, and one of those teams has never been ranked first before.

Senior Max Williams said, “I think it was very fair to give Gonzaga the number one rank in the preseason. They were the runner-up last season and returned lots of their talent.”

The Gonzaga Bulldogs were ranked unanimously first overall in the initial poll, but after a couple of losses, they fell out of the top spot. The Duke Blue Devils upset Gonzaga by a score of 84-81 in a thriller to then take the top rank.

“Duke upsetting Gonzaga came as shock to most as the majority of college basketball fans thought that Gonzaga was the top team in the country by far. But this just shows that no one is safe in college basketball no matter how good we think that team is.” Said Williams

This first overall rank did not last long though as Duke played a game on the road against Ohio State and lost 71-66, putting a new team at number one.

“Seeing Duke lose to Ohio State was very much a surprise to me as Duke had just beat Gonzaga the week before. Then they go out and lose to Ohio State and we question who should be number one now,” said Williams.

For the first time in school history, the Purdue Boilermakers are ranked first in the Associated Press poll. Purdue is 8-0 with multiple quality wins under their belts, including two wins at a neutral site versus ranked teams.

Purdue looks to further their undefeated season in a very tough Big Ten schedule, how far can the Boilermakers make it before they are handed their first loss?
