2025 is a giant year for the entertainment industry, especially on the video game horizon. There hasn’t been many years quite as elusive as this upcoming season. Studios left and right have been announcing games and new projects that have left fans anxiously anticipating the next reveal.
The most notable of the long list of games releasing this year is without a doubt Grand Theft Auto VI. The successor of the highly regarded Grand Theft Auto V has been long awaited, with many fans growing increasingly impatient. It’s been twelve years since GTA V was released and fans are hoping for this next game to be a sensational one. Other games being released this year include Indiana Jones, Death Stranding 2, Metroid Prime 4, Mafia: The Old Country, and many more. All of the games listed above have legitimate opportunity to be Game of the Year candidates.
Outside of sole video game releases, the gaming industry is also gaining a new console: The Nintendo Switch 2. The much-awaited sequel to the iconic Nintendo Switch is rumored to be releasing sometime in April-June. The console is an upgrade to all aspects of the switch, with the controls and tablet increasing in size and image quality. Along with the console, there are rumors of a new Mario Kart, and with every new Nintendo device there is presumably a new 3D Mario platformer.
With all of the exciting new games upcoming, fans can only hope they meet the expectations that have been set for them. With the Game Awards cycle resetting this year, studios will continue to be hard at work to release the best product possible.
