NFL Free Agency has kicked off, and needless to say it has been a wild start. With March 11th being the first day of the new NFL season, all trades and signings officially kick in. With this, there was some significant drama between the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders, as the Ravens backed out of a trade for defensive star Maxx Crosby. Inevitably, questions have been raised over the Raven’s true motives behind this, as they immediately pivoted to signing star Trey Hendrickson with the money they originally planned to give Crosby. While both teams have yet to share more information, it is a story worth monitoring as it unfolds.
Notably, there have been plenty of other free-agent splashes, with the hometown Colts retaining both of their star players, Wide-Reciever Alec Pierce and Quarterback Daniel Jones. Unfortunately, due to the current cap the Colts had to part ways with fan-favorite Michael Pittman Jr., as the Colts traded him to the Steelers in order to free up $24 million in cap space. Other signings include the Carolina Panthers signing two All-Pro defensive players Jaelan Phillips and Devin Lloyd, the Kansas City Chiefs signing Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker, the San Francisco 49ers signing Pro-Bowler Mike Evans, and the Miami Dolphins cutting former All-Pro Tua Tagovailoa to sign former Packers Quarterback Malik Willis.
As the week progresses the signings and trades will continue to occur, as teams look to free up as much cap space as possible. Expect more surprising headlines in the coming days and weeks leading up to the NFL Draft in April.
