March Madness, as expected, has already delivered some of its usual chaos, with thrilling finishes and unexpected storylines lighting up the bracket. The final perfect bracket has already been broken, so now fans will have to wait another year to give what seems impossible another shot. One of the most exciting games so far came in the first round when High Point stunned Wisconsin with a stunning 83–82 win, sealing it in the closing seconds and busting brackets everywhere. Another nail-biter was the opening game of the tournament, as TCU edged Ohio State 66–64, proving once again that no lead is safe in March.
There have also been plenty of dominant performances, including Michigan’s commanding 101–80 win over Howard and Illinois putting up 105 points in a blowout victory over Penn. Still, the tournament has balanced those blowouts with tight, high-pressure moments that define why March Madness remains one of the most exciting events in sports.
Representing Indiana, Purdue has looked strong early in the tournament. The Boilermakers rolled past Queens University with a convincing 104–71 victory in the first round, showing their offensive firepower. They followed that up with a solid 79–69 win over Miami (FL), advancing to the Sweet 16 and continuing to build momentum.
Now, Purdue faces a tough matchup against 11-seed Texas, a team considered to be the last Cinderella story dancing. They have already proven it can win close games in this tournament, but confidence remains high among Boilermaker fans. Purdue supporter Braden Newsom, a senior here at Lebanon, believes that the run is far from over. “I think Purdue is going to keep dancing past Texas,” Newsom said. “They’re playing too well right now to slow down.”
As the tournament moves forward, all eyes will be on whether Purdue can continue carrying Indiana pride deeper into March.
