Politics are quite interesting… Since Trump’s inauguration back in January to now in November there has been a whole lot of news that needs to be talked about and I am here to do that. The year 2025 is almost over, yet will definitely be a year to remember for everyone. Conflicts between foreign countries turning into wars, uproar with Trump taking office once again, and even a rise in school shootings over this year. Notable mentions to begin this year are meetings with Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office back in February where discussion for American aid between the war in Ukraine was left unsolved. Quickly escalating in the year were mentions of the drone attack launched by Ukraine to have a hit on Russia’s air force and Israel’s attack on Iran’s nuclear program to prevent atomic weapons from being developed.

On a higher note going back to May of 2025, following the passing of Pope Francis in April, his successor American-born Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected as Leo XIV and was recognized as the first pope to be born in North America. With that, President Trump created D.O.G.E. (The Department of Government Efficiency) quickly after taking office. By May, there were a large sum of layoffs within several agencies which was met with skepticism from outside critics. With that, various natural disasters that took place in 2025 first with the Los Angeles Wildfires throughout January causing about 50,000 acres of land burned and Mandalay, Myanmar which was struck with a 7.7 earthquake in March resulting in over 3,700 deaths.
Further to more recent politics, the U.S. intervened in the Israel and Iran conflict in June, the set of new tariffs which imposed a 10% tariff on imported goods, and the executive order which changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Woefully, according to CNN, a total of 64 school shootings have taken place in the U.S this year. Of those schools, the most recent being on October 10, where a 17-year-old was shot and injured after a high school football game taking place at South Delta High School located in Rolling Fork, Mississippi according to EdW.

There have been a lot of events so far this year, currently a recent and ongoing event is the government shutdown. The government shutdown has reached forty days (at the time of publication) which would be the longest government shutdown in United States history with the previous and current shutdown being under the Trump administration. Finally, more recently several Democratic wins take place across the United States. In New Jersey and Virginia governors’ races, winning candidates Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger take office, breaking the Republican streak in Virginia since 1961. Also winning a majority vote in New York was Zohran Mamdani in the mayoral election. A significant moment for California, voters approved Proposition 50 which proposes various new lines for California’s 52 congressional districts, which would negate the five Republican seats drawn by Texas according to the California Democratic Party. Overall there are tons of new events happening in the world, it is best to keep yourself updated on what is even happening in your state, the U.S., and all across the globe.
